App comparison: The best calisthenics apps, compared honestly

We make Calitracker, so read this with that in mind. Below is where each app does well and where it falls short, ours included. Every price and plan limit comes from the app's store listing or website.

Which app should you pick?

It depends on whether you want to be coached or to log your own training. For coach-led calisthenics programs, Thenx and Cali Move are the most structured, and also the most expensive. Calisteniapp has the biggest free library of calisthenics routines. Hevy and Strong are the best-known logs for gym training. Calitracker is a log built for calisthenics: holds, band levels, added weight and skill progressions.

Each app in short

Calitracker Our app

Good at
Built around calisthenics logging. Sets can record reps, hold times, added weight or resistance band levels, and the last session shows next to each set. Step-by-step progressions cover the pull-up, muscle-up, front and back lever, planche, dragon flag, one-arm pull-up and handstand. 700+ exercises, a community feed, Apple Watch and Apple Health, and an Android version. No ads on the free plan.
Falls short
A young app with far fewer ratings than the others here, so there is less outside evidence to judge it by. It does not plan your training for you: apart from the Handstand Fundamentals program in Premium, the progressions are steps and targets, not coached video courses. The free plan stops at 4 saved routines and limits history, and the monthly Premium price is higher than Hevy's.

Calisteniapp Free routines

Good at
The most generous free plan for following calisthenics routines: 500+ of them with unlimited sessions. It also has a routine builder with supersets, weight logging in kg or lb, estimated 1RM, Apple Watch and a social wall. Available in six languages.
Falls short
Programs, challenges and advanced metrics need Pro, which costs about twice Calitracker's monthly price. Some App Store reviewers say you cannot log a workout on a past date.

Thenx Coached programs

Good at
Expert-led programs, skill tutorials for moves like the muscle-up and planche, and daily personalised workouts. 4.8 stars from about 12,000 US ratings and an active community with live events.
Falls short
One of the more expensive options, with monthly plans up to $19.99. The listing does not say what you can use without paying, and no Apple Watch app is listed. It is built for following its programs rather than logging your own.

Cali Move Structured programs

Good at
Structured programs for strength, mobility and control from beginner to advanced, with a suggested starting level. You can export your logs and training data.
Falls short
A paid subscription is needed for everything, and it is the most expensive here: the Basic plan at $19.99 a month allows one completed workout a day, and Pro is $29.99 a month. No community features are described.

Hevy Gym logging

Good at
Cheap Pro plan, a large and active community, and a polished log with Apple Watch support. It handles bodyweight, weighted, assisted and timed exercises, and pull-ups count your logged bodyweight.
Falls short
It is built for gym training. There are no skill progressions, timed holds only record your best time, and assisted exercises have no weight-based records. The free plan stops at 4 routines and 7 custom exercises.

Strong Simple gym log

Good at
A simple, fast log with assisted bodyweight and duration exercise types, Apple Watch support and over 100,000 US ratings.
Falls short
The free plan stops at 3 custom routines, the listing describes sharing but no community feed, and nothing in it is specific to calisthenics.

How we compared

  • We read each app's US App Store listing and, where it had one, its own website, on 28 October 2026. Prices are the lowest option the listing shows.
  • We did not run every app for months, so we have not judged things like bugs or how well programs work. Store reviews are mentioned only where several pointed the same way.
  • We make Calitracker and wrote its section from what the app does today, including its limits.
  • Spotted something out of date? Write to info@calisthenicstracker.com and we will fix it.
